synaudio.net concept white paper
We want to descibe on this page what we
think will happen in the future as we can see it right now happening
everywhere.
And synaudio.net is just one example for the new economy that will build new markets and re-set whole industries.
Emerging technologies like mp3 and its spin-offs are killer-apps that will devour whole markets over a certain period of time. We as contributing artists are inside the common structures of the record-business and recognize that something MUST happen to let art be art and music be music. The artificial music market like we have today is just another product: the cash cow of the established record companies who have influences in all kinds of media though their dominating power. But the concepts how this power and might were build are now exposed to the new economy, which basically consists of three major forces that will cause a paradigm shift in this industry.
These three new forces are first of all
Digitization
which namely made the internet possible and is now serving as a container for all kinds of new products;
Globalization,
which came through the spread of the internet and is now transforming your marketplace into a world-wide competition scenario. This warps you in the situation that you compete with the while world instead of your local market; and finally
Deregulation,
which opens the gates of unleashed potential and with that also opens markets never thought of before.
Basically, we see the following layers in the publishing value chain today:

the internet now is a new platform besides the normal distribution channels opening new possibilities for interaction with fans/listeners at marginal costs. artists receive immidiate feedback on productions, technology like synaudio.net's allows for
"just-in-time releasing"
, this all shifts away some tiers when you get digital:
as the middle tiers fade away through the possibility of complete self-management, the artist now reaches a wealth of new attractive opportunities:
finally, the direct customer interaction leads to overall happiness because everybody can be part of the process and take his/her share out.

Artists post their work to the web and manage all data and relationships online (either themselves or through an agency, which might be the transformed "record-label").
Completely mp3-only releasing of tracks creates a whole new infrastructure and "the virtual band", which is the next step after vinyl and the compact disc.
Next steps
Imagine completely new technology to extract the "bottomline" out of a soundfile. This would be a fully objective approach in judging music. It is more a thing of automated categorizaton. So people looking for new inspirations and new sound can "train" a virtual agent with his/her likes and dislikes by presenting examples of music. The agent would understand the actual "meaning", the essence and characterstics of the analyzed sound and could generate something like a pattern which could then be compared to other patterns. This pattern-matching technology is seen in few applications right now, but this meme will boost in the future. The new freedom of choice, created through the digitization of the media will deliver much more than one perpective for earning real cash with music. The contribution to an online community generates a whole new audience never heard of before. The new mechanisms of finding music someone is looking for will be an ideal option for everone who is no longer interested in the "standard" productions.

as the middle tiers fade away through the possibility of complete self-management, the artist now reaches a wealth of new attractive opportunities:
- possibility to create wealthful communities:
- making connections with persons never reached before
- more "publicity" and transparency through self-management
- artists have a current overview of their listeners (personally!), downloads and sales which gives them the best impression on their market-value
finally, the direct customer interaction leads to overall happiness because everybody can be part of the process and take his/her share out.
